The Question Almost Every Patient Asks
“How much will this cost?”
For seniors in Ontario, hearing aid funding can feel confusing — but there are supports available. Here we cover hearing aid coverage for Ontario seniors.
1. Ontario’s Assistive Devices Program (ADP)
The Assistive Devices Program provides funding toward hearing aids for eligible residents.
ADP typically covers a portion of each device. The patient covers the balance.
You must:
Be an Ontario resident
Have a valid health card
Be assessed by an ADP-authorized provider
2. What OHIP Does NOT Cover
OHIP does not cover hearing aids themselves — but may cover medical ENT consultations if required.
3. Private Insurance & Veterans Coverage
Many extended benefit plans reimburse partially.
Veterans Affairs Canada may provide coverage for eligible veterans.
4. Tax Credits
Hearing aids qualify as a medical expense under the Canada Revenue Agency’s Medical Expense Tax Credit.
Details available via Canada Revenue Agency.
